Chopic, driving the Simi Valley Freeway near Chatsworth, California, watched an elliptical object with a clear bubble dome hover about 10 feet off the ground in a canyon at Santa Susana Pass; a humanoid being appeared beside it, re-entered, and the craft departed in a fog-like vapor.
Background
In the early evening of October 4, 1973, Gary J. Chopic, a petroleum consultant, was driving home on the Simi Valley Freeway near Chatsworth, California, when he saw a blimp-like object just above the crest of mountain peaks in Santa Susana Pass. Driving closer, he saw an elliptical object with a clear bubble dome on top hovering 80–100 feet away in a canyon about 10 feet off the ground, swaying back and forth 'like a boat at anchor'; a V-like insignia or aperture covered an entire side, and a hose-like protrusion about 8 feet long and 1 foot in diameter extended from the bottom. Chopic saw motion inside the bubble, and a humanoid being appeared around the side of the craft, saw him, scrambled back to the other side and re-entered the craft. He heard a clicking sound, and the bubble rotated and retracted. A fog-like vapor enveloped the object, he noticed a sweet odor, and the craft took off with a whining or low humming sound and disappeared.
