Freeport, New York: Off-duty patrolmen chase a glowing object as a smaller one merges in
At 9:00 p.m. on 6 November 1973, off-duty patrolmen Gary Steinberg and Thomas Brown in Freeport, New York, watched a bright light that turned out to be a 100-foot football-shaped object; a smaller object merged with it before it sped off to the southwest.
Background
Off-duty patrolmen Gary Steinberg and Thomas Brown, sitting in an unmarked patrol car in Freeport, New York, saw a bright light that was not the helicopter they first took it for and watched it for 5–10 minutes before it moved southeast. Steinberg followed in the car while Brown directed him by radio; he got within 300–400 feet of the object, which was at 700–800 feet altitude, appeared football-shaped and 100 feet long, and glowed silvery blue with an occasional yellow-red pulsating tint. He watched it for 10–15 minutes as it moved southwest, stopping occasionally. A smaller object came up on his right, drifted up to the larger one and merged with it. The larger object then dimmed section by section (about 16) and took off to the southwest, disappearing within a couple of seconds. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
