Altamont, New York: Oval object with golden windows rests on road, burned grass found
About 9:30 p.m. on April 19, 1974, Ruth Currie, her daughter Laurie and a neighbor saw an oval object with brightly glowing windows resting on a roadway near their home in Altamont, New York.
Background
Ruth Currie and her daughter Laurie saw a bright light a few hundred feet from their house and walked to within about 200 feet of it. An oval object rested on the roadway, with large windows in its upper half giving off a brilliant golden glow in which something seemed to move. Currie sent her daughter for a neighbor, Rose Curtis, then went home and phoned her husband, who hurried over and saw the object rise, shift speeds and accelerate out of sight. Throughout the encounter the neighborhood dogs barked continuously. The next morning the witnesses found an area of burned grass 50–75 feet in diameter at the site. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
