Background

Incident

On July 2, 1974 at 15:30, fishermen on the beach at Praia dos Navegantes, Santa Catarina, Brazil noticed a disc-shaped object with small engines on its sides. It descended and fell into the sea about 100 metres away.

Witnesses and Response

The men at first took it for a crashing aircraft and rowed to the spot to rescue any survivors. Ubelino Severino got closest, but the object sank entirely and left only foam on the surface.

Observations

The object showed none of the typical features of a conventional aircraft. There was no visible wreckage or any person afterwards. The witnesses reported a controlled descent.

Significance

This case from Eberhart's chronicle is among the repeated reports of UAP entering the water in Brazil. No official investigation is documented, and it remains an early example of a maritime UAP encounter.
