Background
Just before sunrise on January 1, 1975, actor Warren Oates was in the desert about 20 miles northeast of Palm Springs, California, with Lee Clayton, Trina Mitchum, Judy A. Jones and Ted Markland. They saw an object moving in a semicircle through the sky, described as oval and metallic, flashing yellow, green and white lights, with one large orange light in the center. Clayton, using binoculars, saw a bell shape on top and estimated it was 3–5 miles away at about 2,000 feet. The object stopped and hovered briefly before moving off behind the mountains. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
