Background

A young man and his fiancée driving near Petts Wood in Orpington, Greater London, saw a large, bright, slightly pink circular object hover for 30 seconds and then descend into the woods at 30–35 mph. They reported it to BUFORA logistics adviser Lawrence Dale, who returned to the site with the man. At 8:41 p.m., as aircraft approached Heathrow, a small bright light appeared below one of them and moved toward the witnesses for 30 seconds, growing to four times the brightness of the brightest aircraft landing light; both said they sensed recognition from it before it dimmed and disappeared. Military aircraft then circled the area for 15 minutes, lower than the civil traffic. Eberhart cites the BUFORA Journal 4/12 (1976). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
