Background

At 12:54 a.m. on March 27, 1975, teenagers Keith Nance and Richard Gill saw an orange object descending in Brentwood, California; outside, they watched it level off over a field, shaped "like a diamond ring standing on its side," before it headed straight toward them and sent them back into the house. From indoors they watched it hover for several minutes over a field off Balfour Road, change into a hulking, dark oval shape and rotate slowly, showing three portholes or windows, each emitting light with lines running from top to bottom. The object then spun rapidly, took on an array of colors and sped off to the northeast between two pine trees. Shortly after dawn, the witnesses found a depression about 1.5 feet long and several inches wide in compacted sand, with a mound of disturbed sand nearby; Keith reported that the object had emitted a tube "with a nozzle on the end" matching the depression's shape, and the limbs at the tops of the two pine trees were missing. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
