Background

At 3:00 p.m. on July 26, 1975, three Dutch hikers about to begin the last kilometers of a two-day mountain trip in the Swiss Alps allegedly encountered a circular object hovering in the air in front of them. It seemed to be made of 'some sort of metal, not unlike aluminum,' was dull gray and resembled an inverted soup plate about 50 feet in diameter, and appeared to be suspended over the small village of Zwischbergen, Valais, Switzerland, some 328 to 1,640 feet away. One of the hikers took a color slide; immediately afterward the object started to move, glided behind the trees and disappeared from view. Eberhart marks the case as a possible hoax. The photo is known as the 'Saas Fee photo' (IUR, 1995) and was analyzed by Wim van Utrecht in Caelestia in 2000. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
