Background

Reported observation

According to accessible Danish case accounts, Evald Hansen Maarup was driving a police vehicle northeast of Haderslev late in the evening. He reported an intense light, temporary failures of the engine, headlights, and radio, and unusual heat inside the car. A silent circular object was said to have hovered above the vehicle with a cone of light extending from its underside.

Photographs and later review

Maarup reportedly took three photographs and later handed the film to the Danish Air Force. Later publications, however, show or describe only indistinct light traces. No original official case file or reliable technical analysis is documented in publicly accessible holdings.

Date

SUFOI and other Danish case archives date this first report to August 13, 1970. A second similar report by Maarup is dated August 14, 1973. The accessible secondary record provides no basis for dating the first observation to 1975.
