Background

At 9:05 p.m. on February 1, 1977, two helicopter pilots flying south at 60 mph near Glendale, California, watched a northbound light pass beneath them and climb to their altitude of 2,000 feet, 300–500 feet away. It appeared to be a dark, vertical cylinder 10–15 feet high and 5–8 feet wide, with struts and a light on the bottom. As the helicopter circled, the object rose higher, headed southeast and disappeared within a second or two. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
