Background
At 7:00 and 8:45 p.m., two waves of UFO sightings were reported over a wide area between Cumberland, Wisconsin, and Newport, Minnesota. UFO investigator Robert E. Engberg traced the first wave from around Chisago City, Minnesota, moving east between Dresser and St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. The second wave originated near Cumberland and followed an 85-mile course to St. Paul, Minnesota. Witnesses saw formations of red lights, single round objects with red body lights, and orange globes in straight-line and oblique formations; some disc-shaped objects with rows of body lights were also reported. The International UFO Reporter covered the events in May 1978 under the headline "A Mini-Flap in Minnesota: UFO or Helicopters?" The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
