Bâlea Lake, Romania: Soldiers see tall dark figure, sergeant knocked down by hot blast
On September 23–24, 1978, cable car technicians and soldiers on work duty at the Bâlea Lake resort, Romania, saw a red light and a dark figure; the next night Sgt. Ion Radu approached a figure about 8 feet tall and was knocked unconscious by a hot blast.
Background
Around midnight two cable car technicians at the Bâlea Lake resort, Romania, were awakened by a red light visible through dense fog, apparently coming from an object some 30 feet outside their window; the light then disappeared. At the same time, at a barracks on the site where soldiers were assigned work duties, Cpl. Ioan Dörr went outside for water and saw a dark, motionless silhouette only a few feet away for at least 5 minutes. The next evening at 11:45 p.m. Sgt. Ion Radu noticed a dark figure about 8 feet tall moving slowly on a mound about 65 feet away; after the soldiers found the window shutters forced open and threw stones at it, Radu approached to within 4 feet and raised a club, but felt a hot blast and fell backward into the snow, remaining unconscious for about 10 minutes, while two soldiers with him were briefly paralyzed. Five soldiers saw a "wreath of lights" where the figure had stood, others heard scratching at the shutters, and the next morning four parallel scratches about 4 inches apart were found; the soldiers spent the following night at a nearby resort.
