Background
At 10:04 p.m. on October 23, 1978, Chinese Air Force pilots were attending an outdoor film screening at Lintao Air Base, Gansu province, China, when an elongated object with two searchlights and a glowing tail appeared in the sky moving west. Pilot Zhou Qingtong said it was large and close to the ground. The pilots watched it for 2β3 minutes as it circled above them. A report in CIA files gives its altitude as 20,000 feet, differing from the witness accounts. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
