Barnum, Minnesota: Ball of light rolls over couple's car, engine and battery fail
At 9:30 p.m. on 6 October 1979 a couple driving on Interstate 35 east of Barnum, Minnesota, saw a ball of light 3–6 feet across roll silently over their car; shortly afterwards the engine died, the headlights malfunctioned and the battery and alternator had to be replaced.
Background
A couple driving on Interstate 35 east of Barnum, Minnesota, saw a ball of light 3–6 feet in diameter approaching low over some trees. It rolled and bounced silently over the top of the car in about 10 seconds. After another 500 feet the car's engine died and the headlights malfunctioned; the battery was so dead that it could not be jump-started, and the alternator also had to be replaced. The mechanic who did the repair said the interior looked as if a fire had gone through it, though the exterior did not. Eberhart cites IUR (November 1979) and Mark Rodeghier's summary of vehicle interference reports (CUFOS, 1988). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
