Palgong Mountain: F-4D Phantoms encounter large disc
Two South Korean Air Force F-4D Phantom pilots spotted a stationary star-like object near Palgong Mountain that grew larger, evaded radar, and maneuvered at high speed. The object, resembling a jumbo jet in size with golden light and rim colors, departed east after jets circled it.

Incident
In March 1979 at 9:00, two Republic of Korea Air Force F-4D Phantom II jets were flying at 15,000 feet on their way back from the Team Spirit exercise to Daegu Air Force Base. The pilots were Lt. Col. Seungbae Lee and Col. Byungsun Lim.
Sighting and Behaviour
Near Palgong Mountain in the Taebaek range, a star-like, motionless object appeared in the distance, growing larger as they approached. Neither the aircraft nor the base detected it on radar. At 15 miles it shot away to the east and halted again. It was disc-shaped, as large as a jumbo jet, and radiated golden light from top to bottom. Red and blue lights sparkled around its rim.
Interaction
The jets circled above it twice, whereupon the object escaped rapidly to the east. No hostile action was observed.
Significance
