Background

Witnesses and Event

On February 22, 1979 at 16:00, Lynsey Tebbs and Susan Pearson, both aged 14, saw an object come down with a loud whining sound while they were sledging in Meanwood near Leeds. It landed nearby on the snow.

Description of the Object

The grey, egg-shaped object had two fins at the sides and was about the size of a small car. The noise changed to a hum, which faded after it landed.

Sequence of Events

Frightened, the girls fled up the hill but looked back. The object stayed for about three minutes, hummed again, moved closer, and landed 24 metres away. After a few minutes it wobbled and rose.

Investigation and Evidence

On February 25 the Yorkshire UFO Society examined the site and found unusual impressions in the snow at two positions. (Sources: Northern Ufology, July 1979; Good, Above Top Secret, pp. 72-73)
