Background

Around 9:30 p.m. on October 2, 1981, Grant Breiland, while walking his elder sister to her car in front of their home in Victoria, British Columbia, noticed an unusually large and bright object in the clear night sky that he first took for a star; his mother, sister and a passing cyclist could not spot it. By CB radio he contacted a witness, N.B., on Mount Tolmie three miles away, who confirmed a big white light 'like a star that is about to shoot' and then, through binoculars, a large red light pointing directly at him. Breiland photographed the object with camera and tripod; it appeared as an object with an inverted dome-like structure and a moving small diamond-shaped red light at its center, surrounded by four larger white lights that moved with it and seemed to have dark dots, possibly windows, around their edges. The object performed movements resembling a priest making the sign of the cross and vanished suddenly at 10:00 p.m. Later that night Victoria had an unusual thunderstorm, and the street light opposite the house malfunctioned before gradually coming back on; both Breiland and N.B. later experienced headaches during a visit to discuss the sighting. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
