Background
Project Hessdalen II was launched in January 1985 to study the recurring lights of Hessdalen, Norway, with the participation of J. Allen Hynek, who arrived on January 26, but little light activity was noted. The phenomenon ceased in 1986. Investigators disagree on what the lights are: Odd-Gunnar RΓΈed thinks they have some complex natural cause, Erling Strand finds them so localized in time and space that they must be an unknown phenomenon, and Paul Devereux is convinced they are earthquake lights from seismic activity, although the seismograph recorded no tremors. University of Oslo physicist Elvand Thrane says the lights remain a mystery. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
