Background

After 10:00 p.m. medical technicians taking an injured man by ambulance to Debrecen, Hungary, saw a huge, luminous orange sphere flying silently above the right side of the road at Hajdúdorog and moving along with them about 325 feet away and 100–130 feet up; it was surrounded by a ring, and flames appeared on its surface from time to time. The sighting lasted 15 minutes over nearly 12 miles; near Hajdúböszörmény the object sped up, stopped above a forest and slowly descended, lighting up the trees, and then went out. On the way back from Debrecen the sphere reappeared over Józsa, now with 6–7 flames, 'waited' for the ambulance beyond the village and followed it north, and when the technicians stopped it slowed down, moved over a power line and lit up the cables, following them for another 10 minutes after they drove on. Shortly afterwards, on the same route, the technicians found the forest where the sphere had landed on fire, with wet grass and flames about 5 feet high coming from the ground. Karoli Hargitai described the case in the International UFO Reporter in 1989. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
