Corydon, Indiana: MUFON investigators videotape orange light and apparent near miss
At 10:20 p.m. on 23 August 1987 12–15 observers in Corydon, Indiana, five of them MUFON field investigators, watched a brilliant orange, flare-like light for several minutes and videotaped an apparent near miss with a small aircraft.
Background
At 10:20 p.m. a brilliant orange, flare-like light suddenly appeared 20°–25° above the south-southeastern horizon in Corydon, Indiana. It seemed stationary but might have been moving toward the 12–15 observers, five of whom were MUFON field investigators. At one point it descended rapidly to the left, and several times it winked out completely only to flare up again. After about 5–8 minutes it went into slow, flat east-to-west flight at an elevation of 10°–15°. During the last 30 seconds or so a small commercial or private aircraft entered the area from west to east on an apparent collision course with the light, and several seconds of videotape document this apparent near miss. NICAP documents the case. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
