Background

At 6:45 p.m. Lt. Col. André Amond of the Belgian Army and his wife spotted a strange aerial object while driving on the deserted Rue de Sart Ernage between Ernage and Gembloux, Belgium. It looked like a series of 3–4 panels of light traveling north to south at an altitude of 650–980 feet, with a rotating red lamp beneath them near the center. Amond stopped where the road dead-ended and watched it pass for 2–4 minutes; then it abruptly changed course and silently headed toward him, showing only an enormous spot of white light, “much bigger than the spotlight of a big air carrier.” Frightened, they started the car again; the big light disappeared, and three smaller white spotlights formed a roughly equilateral triangle, about 33 feet apart, with no solid object discernible, while the red light was seen in profile. The object made a slow 180° turn to the left, the white points disappeared, and the red rotating light left toward the south-southwest; the sighting lasted about 5–8 minutes. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
