Voronezh: Mass sighting of landed craft and humanoid entities
On September 27, 1989, multiple children in Voronezh, Russia reported observing a landed craft and tall humanoid beings. The incident gained international attention after TASS published details provided by local scientist Genrikh Silanov. Witnesses described a three-eyed entity and robotic escorts, though Silanov later claimed media outlets exaggerated his statements.
Background
Observation
On the evening of September 27, 1989, children and adults in a park in Voronezh reported an unusual object. In the TASS account summarized by Richard M. Dolan, a pink or red light appeared first. A dark red sphere was then said to have circled low over the park, returned, and eventually landed. Witnesses described a very tall being in silvery clothing and a smaller, robot-like entity. Among the most extraordinary claims was that a teenage boy briefly disappeared after a tube-shaped device was pointed at him and reappeared after the object departed.
Investigation and Assessment
Dolan reports that Genrikh Silanov and the Voronezh Committee for the Study of Anomalous Phenomena interviewed witnesses by early October. Silanov said that the Soviet media had taken considerable liberties with his report. He nevertheless believed that an unusual event may have occurred and cited accounts from several adult witnesses, including members of the local militia and other professionals. TASS circulated the story internationally on October 9, 1989. Dolan stresses that exaggeration and later embellishment make the case difficult to assess reliably.
