Background

At 7:00 p.m. French pilot Jean-Gabriel Greslé was standing outside a gym in Gretz-Armainvilliers, Seine-et-Marne, France, with six of his martial arts students when a massive UFO came into view; his first impression was of a huge crane with many lights. It was about 2,600 feet away at an altitude of 985 feet, moving downward, and another witness saw it level off and turn. It projected two very long, divergent beams of solid light that did not quite touch the ground; the object was at least 1,000 feet long and 200–250 feet thick, with triangular substructures, many lights and a trapezoidal rear section. When it flew above them at no more than 100 mph, it seemed to tune out all surrounding noise, as if carrying a “zone of silence”; as Greslé moved around a tree to see it better, it dimmed, moved away and disappeared into a cloud. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
