On October 8, 1990 at 11:00 local time, an unidentifiable target appeared on ground trackers near Grozny, Chechnya, Russia. Commander S. Prokoshin ordered an interceptor to launch, flown by Major P. Riabishev.
Sighting
During the flight the pilot turned and saw two large cigar-shaped objects behind and to the right. The first was about 2,000 metres long, the second around 400 metres. No detail was discernible at that distance. As he approached, they disappeared from view.
Radar and Tracking
Ground trackers continued to hold the objects, although they were no longer visible. This suggests high speed or the ability to conceal themselves.
