United States: GAO announces review of DOD records on balloon and crash incidents
On February 9, 1994, Richard Davis of the General Accounting Office's National Security Analysis group wrote to Secretary of Defense William J. Perry that the GAO was initiating a review of DOD policies for handling documents on weather balloon, aircraft and similar crash incidents.
Background
On February 9, 1994, Richard Davis, director of the National Security Analysis group at the General Accounting Office, wrote to Secretary of Defense William J. Perry that the GAO was initiating a review of “DOD's policies and procedures for acquiring, classifying, retaining, and disposing of official governmental documents dealing with weather balloon, aircraft, and similar crash incidents.” The aim was to find out whether “proper procedures to ensure government accountability” had been followed. Mark Rodeghier reported on the letter in the International UFO Reporter under the title “Roswell and the GAO Investigation.” The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
