Gulf of Çandarlı, Turkey: Bright object paces Turkish Air Force T-37 trainer
On the afternoon of August 6, 2001, two Turkish Air Force pilots of 122 Squadron training in a T-37B over the Gulf of Çandarlı, Turkey, saw an extremely bright object that approached at high speed and stayed alongside, behind and above their jet for several minutes; ground radar showed nothing.
Background
In the afternoon two Turkish Air Force pilots from 122 Squadron, 1Lt. Ilker Dinçer and his student Lt. Arda Gunyel, were practicing maneuvers in a Cessna T-37B Dragonfly jet trainer over the Gulf of Çandarlı, an inlet of the Aegean Sea in western Turkey. They were surprised by an extremely bright object shaped like something between a disc and a cone, with a pod on its lower part; ground control had nothing on radar. The object approached at high speed, positioned itself alongside, behind and above the jet and played cat and mouse with it for some minutes before it disappeared at high speed. The Turkish Air Force announced that it was a weather balloon. ABC News reported the encounter on August 8, 2001. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
