Background

Incident

At 02:30, air force security police in Area 2, a weapons storage area of the Nevada Test Site (now the Nevada National Security Site), were eating outdoors when they noticed a red glow at their feet. A gigantic sphere, about 30 metres across, was approaching from the south.

Observation

The object passed silently over them at a height of 23 metres, producing a zone of silence and a pressure from below that made the guards' ears pop. It disappeared over the mountains to the north and exploded there in a silent white flash of light without a shock wave. The brightness increased to the point of pain, even with eyes closed, and lasted 5 seconds.

Response

The security controller ordered all outdoor units to search for the crashed object. The patrols combed the area until 07:00 but found nothing. No further evidence or official reports exist.

Significance

This military contact with an apparently physical phenomenon inside a secure facility raises potential security concerns and remains unexplained.
