Background
MUFON formed a work team called the MUFON Advanced Technology Establishment (MATE), consisting of Robert M. Wood, Charles W. Modlin, Robert Powell and Chuck Reever, specifically to work with the Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies company. On October 17, 2008, MATE signed a contract to provide BAASS with technical papers on UAP lift, power generation, human interface, propulsion for interstellar travel and control, all elements of the DIA contract proposal. Under Wood's direction the team wrote a handful of papers; the authors' names were not given on the papers, which identified only the team and the place of writing. On November 9, 2008, the MATE papers were delivered to BAASS in Las Vegas, for which MUFON was subsequently paid about $10,000. The entry cites Curt Collins's 2020 article 'The Pentagon UFO Program's Secret Partner' and the AAWSAP-BAASS-MUFON document collection 2008 to 2009. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
