ORNL Analyzes Alleged Ohio UAP Aluminum Specimen
Oak Ridge National Laboratory examined a metallic specimen for AARO that had been associated with an alleged UAP incident in Ohio in the mid-1990s. Multiple analytical methods identified it as a conventional cast aluminum-silicon alloy with no unusual gamma emissions or evidence of an exotic origin.
Background
AARO commissioned Oak Ridge National Laboratory to independently examine drill shavings and a small section of a metallic specimen. The material had been associated with a claim involving an unidentified phenomenon over Ohio in the mid-1990s.
ORNL combined chemical assays, electron microscopy, x-ray methods, computed tomography, and gamma spectroscopy. The measurements found approximately 86 percent aluminum and 12 percent silicon, along with microstructural features and porosity typical of a slowly cooled casting.
The samples showed neither an unusual elemental composition nor anomalous radioactive emissions. ORNL matched the material to established industrial aluminum-silicon alloy families and found no data supporting novel physics or an extraterrestrial origin.
Significance
The analysis is relevant to the UAP timeline because a U.S. national laboratory tested a publicly discussed physical UAP specimen with multiple independent methods and documented a conventional industrial explanation.
