Allied Powers Europe

Allied Command Operations (ACO), formerly known as Allied Powers Europe, is one of NATO's two strategic commands. Its headquarters — Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) — is located in Casteau, near Mons, Belgium. SHAPE directs all NATO military operations and is led by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), traditionally a US four-star officer.

UAP Context

SHAPE and its subordinate commands coordinate NATO-wide integrated air defence, making it the primary body through which unidentified-object reports flowing from member-state radar stations are aggregated. Documented NATO-adjacent UAP incidents include the Sardinia missile-battery incident, where a NATO missile battery filmed a UFO and missiles reportedly hit an 'invisible bulwark'. Cold War-era NATO tactical reports on unidentified aerial objects were routed through SHAPE command structures.

Modern Role

Today, Allied Command Operations continues its role as the NATO command aggregating multinational air-defence and incident data. With US disclosure activity increasing since 2017, NATO partners have begun more systematic sharing of UAP reports — a process likely to further involve SHAPE's operational centres. Historical SHAPE archives remain a valuable, partially classified resource for European Cold War UAP research.
