Francisco Marto (1908–1919) was one of the three child witnesses of the Fatima apparitions in Portugal in 1917. Together with his sister Jacinta and his cousin Lúcia dos Santos, he reported seeing a luminous figure during six encounters between May and October 1917 — unlike the girls, he could see but not hear the entity. He died in 1919 at the age of 10 during the flu pandemic and was canonised by the Catholic Church in 2017 on the centenary of the apparitions.

  • Portuguese child witness (1908–1919)
  • One of the three child witnesses of the Fatima apparitions in 1917
  • Together with his sister Jacinta and cousin Lúcia dos Santos
  • Six encounters between May and October 1917 with a luminous figure
  • Unlike the girls: he saw the entity but could not hear it
  • Culminating event: the Miracle of the Sun on 13 October 1917, witnessed by tens of thousands
  • Died at age 10 during the 1918/1919 flu pandemic; canonised by the Catholic Church in 2017

For the UAP timeline, Marto is one of the three core witnesses of the Fatima apparitions, repeatedly discussed in the context of "luminous figure and sun miracle" cases as an early religiously framed UAP narrative. His case links the Catholic Marian apparition tradition with UFO historiography — a crossroads that authors like Jacques Vallée work through systematically.
