John Winthrop

John Winthrop (1587–1649) served as the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and was a prominent Puritan leader. In UAP research he is historically significant as the author of the first written UFO sightings documented in North America — recorded in his journal History of New England from 1630–1649. On 1 March 1639 he documented James Everell's report of a great light at Muddy River, together with two others; a week later a second sighting of two luminous objects that merged and separated multiple times.
