Short overview

A one-page FBI memorandum of April 17, 1958, from Special Agent Robert Ross Reynolds to the Special Agent in Charge in Detroit, recording a telephoned report of an unidentified flying object over the city.

Why this is interesting

A Detroit man called the FBI office at 4:08 a.m. and described a “circular object with a crystal-type dome that reflected lights,” moving north from the southwest and crossing the city three blocks south of Six Mile at Lamphere Street. He said he had first tried to reach the Air Force at Selfridge Field without success and then called the FBI instead. The memo notes his age, that he was a Detroit policeman’s son and had previous experience with the Civil Air Patrol but was not too familiar with the identification of aircraft, and that he was on his way home from work when he saw the object. The FBI’s only recommendation was to “advise proper air force authorities.”
