Late Phoenix Lights over the Barry Goldwater Range
The lights filmed southwest of Phoenix around 10 p.m. strongly match slowly descending illumination flares from a military training exercise.
Videos
📍 Large military training range in southwestern Arizona. The later Phoenix lights around 10 p.m. were very probably caused by illumination flares released during an A-10 night exercise over this area.
Background
Around 10 p.m., several apparently stationary lights were filmed southwest of Phoenix. Bruce Maccabee’s geometric analysis, their sequential disappearance at the mountain ridge, slow drift, and later statements from the Maryland Air National Guard strongly support illumination flares dropped during an A-10 night exercise over the Barry Goldwater Range. This interpretation very probably explains the visually iconic late episode. It is not automatically an explanation for the earlier V formation, which occurred at a different time and location.
