📍 Capital city of Arizona and site of one of the most widely witnessed UFO events in history. The Phoenix metropolitan area and surrounding regions were the primary observation zones for the 1997 mass sighting.

Background

Between roughly 8:15 and 8:45 p.m., witnesses along a north–south corridor reported bright lights in a V or arc. Accounts differed on whether the lights belonged to one solid, silent object or moved relative to one another. Amateur astronomer Mitch Stanley reported seeing individual aircraft through his telescope. Thomas E. Bullard’s later CUFOS review considers a high-altitude formation of conventional aircraft the best overall explanation, without conclusively identifying the specific flight.
