Donald “Deke” Slayton (1924-1993) was a U.S. Air Force pilot, test pilot, one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, and later NASA manager for flight crew operations. In the astronaut/UAP story he appears chiefly as part of the public astronaut context around Gordon Cooper’s UFO statements on the Merv Griffin Show in 1978; his role should not be overstated as an independent UFO claim.
